Weekend update
BBQ
We had a bbq at our place in honor of my DH's big 3-0 birthday. It was the first time we've really had a party at our home. It was almost like a very belated housewarming...except that it was in the backyard. heehee.
For the first two hours of the BBQ, I was running between the kitchen and the backyard to make sure the right food and utensils were out. Also, I tried to make sure that people were getting to know other people (like our neighbors to other neighbors). Someone had to remind me to bring out the forks since it had completely slipped my mind that people don't eat salad with their hands. There was so much food thanks to the people who brought everything we didn't provide - salad, chips, cookies, etc. The BBQ was exhausting but it was so great to get everyone together for the first time. :)
Mother's Day and Wedding
We spent Mother's Day with my mother-in-law in SoCal since we had a wedding in the evening in L.A. We had Mother's Day brunch at a restaurant with a nice view and mediocre food. Apparently it used to be much more upscale with better food - so that was a bit disappointing. But the view of the harbor was great! We walked around the harbor afterwards, watching little kids splashing in the waves on the beach and dogs of all sizes running around.
The wedding that evening was AWESOME. It was a traditional Persian wedding ceremony. The officiant forgot to translate to English so we sat there with very little understanding of what was going on. haha! The wedding was beautiful! And the hotel it was held in (Biltmore in downtown L.A.) was absolutely incredible. In the early early days of the Oscar, it was held in this hotel.
I'm hoping to post some pictures soon...of the food too! For hors d'oeuvres, there was sushi, sashimi, meat kebabs that look like sausages (kobideh), dips and bread. Then for the main course, a lot of different Persian dishes including "jeweled rice". For dessert, there was a beautiful spread which we actually skipped *gasp* because we were so stuffed! Anyway, this was probably the most lavish wedding we've ever attended.
This weekend will be quiet. phew! :p
