Just had an awesome fun-in-the-sun weekend! :) The sr director in our group invited us all to his lakeside retreat for the weekend. It was so warm this weekend that the water was a comfortable temperature and took only a few seconds to adjust to it. Highlights of the weekend:
1) Hertz overbooked (it seems as if every car rental place does this much to the annoyance of its customers) and gave us a SUV instead of a minivan. First time in a SUV. Boy, is it a gas guzzler! We almost ran out of gas at one point because we didn't realize how quickly it burned through the tank. oops.
2) I can water ski! :p Tried water skiing for the first time. Consistently wiped out the first day but on the second day, I was able to stand up each time for the most part. yeah! Almost made it completely through an entire turn but got COMPLETELY knocked off - both of my skis came off when I hit a wave. heehee. But it's actually kind of fun to fall because you only hit water. I want to go again!! Anyone own a boat? heehee.
3) Went jet skiing for the first time. It's a lot easier than driving and so much fun to bounce on the waves. These were really popular this weekend. We all had to wait our turn for them on the first day.
4) Also went tubing for the first time. Fiance and I used a U-tube which is shaped like a U and had floaters on either side. It's really difficult to flip it because it's fairly stable. The first time we did it, there were two other tubes being dragged behind the boat with us. GJones gave us an exciting ride with all his turning and speeding. You just hang on, pretty much, but it's amazing how fun it is just to hang on. :)
The second day, when we went tubing, EshV drove the boat - his first time. It was a really rough ride. Fiance and I were bouncing up and down on that tube. Several times, I was in danger of falling off. Exciting but a bit scary at the same time. So fun though!
5) Fiance and I were going to camp for both nights. However, we were run out of our tent by ants on the second night so we ended up spending the night at the house. On Saturday morning, we found ants in our tent and cleaned them up. When we got back in the afternoon, the ants had reappeared. So we soaped down the tent and thought we got rid of them. Saturday night, just as we were going to bed, I felt a prick on my leg. Turned out to be an ant pinching me. That led us to search the tent and found that once again, the ants were back. This time, they had made holes on the bottom of our tent. We concluded that we were probably on top of their ant hole because we didn't have anything edible in the tent. I really didn't want to wake up in the middle of the night to pinching ants, so we headed to the house for the night. Grrr. We had moved the tent to another area and on Sunday when we went back to unpitch the tent, the ants were gone. Ants were black and red - never seen or heard of this variety before.
Right now, still recovering from the weekend. Arm and leg muscles are sore from water skiing. With each little task, I can feel my muscles working. :p MAN, I want to go again!
