Palm Springs

So this is a bit delinquent...

Wednesday night, jetted off to Palm Springs. The plane was packed with people for the CUE (Computer Using Educators) conference - saw plenty of iBooks around which is an unusual sight to see, usually lots of Dells.

Thursday morning, woke up early to help set up our booth for the conference. At 8am in the morning, it was already warm - went sleeveless the entire weekend! woo! Putzed around the conference center since exhibits didn't open until 2pm. It's amazing how so many exhibitors set up their booths right before the exhibit opens - we're all such procrastinators. Thusday traffic was light. Saw our in-laws who drove over to see us and our booth. Had an excellent dinner with them - ribs!!

Friday was our GRUELING day - physicially taxing. We had to stand in our booth for 8 hours and only sat down when we were giving demos. Thankfully we had brought our own snacks and drinks so we didn't really have to leave our booth. Since there were 3 of us, we took turns going to the "exhibitor's lounge" where they provided drinks and cookies. [ they were almost always out of iced tea ] Lots of people dropped by our booth -> very busy day -> very GOOD day :)

I met the marketing consultant - the man is amazing! He has led a colorful life that helps him relate with all people. He is THE master of networking. Everytime he went out, he would come back with a business card of some important person in education. He's got this Brooklyn accent and boy is he a talker. This man was made to be in marketing.

After the exhibits closed, we went to a private party where all the leaders of education were invited. We were the youngest people there and only knew like two people. :p While DH was talking with the bigwigs, I got to meet a woman whose daughter married Kevin Costner - got to see their wedding pictures (non-ceremony). That was very cool. Her daughter is gorgeous which means that this woman was probably very pretty when she was younger.

Saturday was also a very busy day for us at the booth. Had to skip lunch again because of the booth traffic. Although this day, future VP of marketing came to help out. It felt so great to finally close up shop and pack up our car. I finally got what I deserved: outlet shopping!!!!!!

The outlets at Cabazon (30 minutes outside of Palm Springs) were awesome! They had a variety of stores including high-end ones like YSL. We went into YSL just to see what their clothes looked like and the "slashed" prices. DH got a bunch of nice silk shirts (he really likes silk shirts) at the Perry Ellis outlet as well as nice Bostonian dress shoes. As for me, I wish I had a whole other day to shop there. :p Got a cute top, shoes, and a sweater. We only made it through the smaller complex.

Drove to LA since we were staying with a high school buddy for the night. Went out for Brazilian food and shaved ice. SO FULL when we got back. Her apartment is gigantic - plus it's minimally furnished so it seems even BIGGER. The next morning, got up really late, and had ramen. The regular bowl of ramen is HUGE - it's no wonder we saw a couple sharing one bowl.

Before we left, she gave us a driving tour (we were too lazy to walk) of the UCLA campus. A lot of brick buildings. There's actually this new building they had just finished construction...and then realized they didn't put in any gas lines. :D

Yeah, it was a good weekend. ^_^
