Why is it that any attempt towards independence always culminates into a clash of wills and stormy dispositions with my parents? I understand that I will always be their kid - Nature enforces that. But if one is an adult and employed with an Asian-parent-approved job, why must one continue to let them direct the course of one's life? Did they not fully realize that their kids who grew up in America may have different perspectives than them, who grew up living in Taiwan thirty years ago?
Why do they expect us be adults and yet treat us like children? Why do they tell you that you're incompetent? Is it some weird power trip or do they derive pleasure from inflicting emotional pain?
Most importantly, do family friends really care what the hell we do?
