M.I.A.

For the past couple of days, I've been logged onto another network (birdie's company!). However, due to the nature of the work, I cannot connect to the internet through that network or anything else for that matter. It feels so strange to be unconnected from the rest of the world (i.e., no more blog reading, emails - work and private, or im).

*sigh* how dependent I have become on technology to amuse myself.

Regression

Being newly weds, you'd think we would've put more time and energy into this year's Valentine's Day. Well, we're regressing...how?

Well, we had planned to be very low-key: eat at home, bake a cake for dessert, watch something on Tivo, etc. None of that fancy expensive restaurant stuff.

But now we are regressing even more than that! We're having dinner with my parents!!   :D

This is like going back to the days in junior high! hahahah!

Yeah, so the cake is going to have to wait.
Not-so-early bird

I almost laughed out loud this morning when I saw an email sent on Sunday night requesting that I attend a meeting at 8am on Monday morning...and to CALL Monday morning to confirm my attendance.

Ok, these people have to realize that I don't check my office email before going to sleep at night - I'm not THAT dedicated of an employee. Also, people in our office roll in somewhere between 10am and 11am. If you come in earlier, no one knows. And then they frown at you when you leave early. It's just not worth coming in early unless you make sure everybody knows that you come in early - that's just obnoxious.

Silly people just have to realize that I'm not paid enough to actually check office email over the weekends, when I'm not expecting anything. :p

HAPPY NEW YEAR'S!

Today is the beginning of the new lunar year.

May the coming year bring prosperity and joy to you.

Funny thing I learned last night: The wife celebrates Chinese New Year's with her husband's family but on the second day after the New Year's, she takes her husband home to celebrate with her own family. Therefore, in Taiwan, on the second day, there's a lot of traffic! :p The sad reason is that they've made this a tradition because cruel mother-in-laws prevented many wives from visiting home back in the days.

Eat and be merry! ^_^ <- haha, Asian smiley

Be a Man!

Now I'm unofficially managing two developers in India. (Unofficially means that I'm NOT a manager, I'm NOT paid to manage them, and my title reflects that I'm not even supposed to be managing anyone.)

Unfortunately, one of them is a) arrogant and b) getting on my nerves. The other one is awesome <- like very much working with him.

So, after getting a chance to hear how upper management peeps speak to the peons, I've decided that in talking to that one guy in particular, I'm going to talk like an aggressive and authoritative male manager that tolerates none of his antics.

Sometimes being nice to people at work just doesn't cut it.
