Love Day

Valentine's Day is one of those hard-to-get-a-decent-restaurant-reservation-at-a-decent-time times for procrastinators. I had a coworker who asked me for restaurant suggestions three days before the big day. And he learned his lesson about making reservations for this "celebration of love" day - he got reservations for a dinner at 4pm. :p

Fiance and I decided to make dinner this year. It wasn't some elaborate feast but just a simple meal of Vietnamese fresh rolls. Since we were making these rolls as we ate them, I finished dinner WAY before he did (a first) because he couldn't eat as fast he normally does. heehee. :p And afterwards we made cream puffs. I love cream puffs!! I was a bit apprehensive about how they were going to turn out because fiance's mother seems to be the only one who can make them well in her circle of friends. But they came out just lovely (slightly burnt due to an overly powerful oven).

On another note, last week, I voluntarily watched my first full episode of reality tv. America's Top Model is so fun! Watching the girls pose and deal with the stress of the contest is so very entertaining. :) I'm also keeping tabs on The Apprentice through the web. hehe. Am I going to become a reality tv junkie??? We'll see....

On Saturday, met up with APC and JL for lunch. We were going to go to Brown Sugar Cafe. While fiance and I were walking towards Fenway, APC called me and said that they had just past us. Apparently JL drives in Boston! =) Backtracked and loaded ourselves into the car. They headed down Comm Ave, away from Fenway....Fiance and I were confused because we only knew of one location. So Brown Sugar actually has another branch towards Boston College. Too bad they were closed for construction when we got there. So APC and JL really like soul food from this one restaurant - unfortunately for us, they were participating in a Hunger Drive that required us to fork over $20 for brunch. Decided that it was a little too much considering we couldn't order what we wanted. So after all this driving and looking for parking, we ended up at the original Brown Sugar Cafe near Fenway. :D

Afterwards, shopping on Newbury! I love Express's Editor Pants. I can actually wear them without any problems - no alterations needed, no tall shoes required. Got two of those. heehee. For dinner, Elephant Walk. Unfortunately they had had a fire earlier last year so the interior was a bit different from what it was. Fewer elephants marching along the ceiling. Too bad. Had dinner with lil lil sis and her boy and afterwards, dessert of brownies and ice cream at his place. (They still haven't restored the flourless chocolate cake back on the dessert menu - sigh) Walking across the Harvard Bridge is so freezing cold! Man, I should never complain about California winters anymore. :p
BOSTON!
Last weekend I was in Boston for an Oracle recruiting trip, i.e. collecting resumes at the career fair. hehehe. But boy do I feel old watching the undergrads milling around...but I got to meet a lot of young sisters! Once they found out that I was working a booth, they started coming up and introducing themselves. We passed out long-sleeved t-shirts which are a rare handout at career fairs so they were pretty popular. Other recruiters bartered for our t-shirts - I felt very smug knowing that they came to us. :p

Boston was definitely a FAT weekend - we had so much food!! All our activities were planned around food. Legal Seafood's on Thursday night - LOVE their warm chocolate pudding cake. I wanted a whole dessert to myself but fiance thought we should split...so we split it for (ahem) health reasons. (yeah, whatever)

Friday morning, we checked out of the hotel at 7am because we needed to be at his friend's place (which is where we were going to stay over the weekend) before they left for work. (UGH, imagine getting up at before 7am for work) Got to their apartment in time and dropped off our bags. Then it was SHOPPING!!! Went to Downtown Crossing to look for closed-toed gold shoes to match my chipao. Then dim sum at 10:30 with fiance's coworker-turned-friend in Chinatown. She brought her baby along - SO CUTE! He's this curious little thing that likes exploring (but then gets scared when he wanders too far). All the waiters were amused by him. heehee!

After dim sum, more shopping! Got two gold shoes that I need to decide on...Then we went to Harvard Square for Burdick's hot chocolate. So yum! Fiance never had it before but he said that it was so worth it despite the snow and rain that afternoon. (The roads were amazingly slushy because it had snowed in the morning and then turned to rain.) But unfortunately, due to the weather, we couldn't wear our nice outfits for L'Espalier in the evening. *sigh* At least the dinner was sublime....yummmmm. Thoroughly enjoyed each dish. =)
